Dietary supplements
The most common use. Camu camu powder goes into capsules, tablets, sachets and gummies, alone or blended with other fruit powders. Points to consider:
- Target per serving. Work from the lot's certificate of analysis. At the specification limits, 1 g of whole-fruit powder contains 30–70 mg of vitamin C, and 1 g of spray-dried powder at least 80 mg.
- Capsule fill. The spray-dried powder flows well and compresses evenly; the whole-fruit powder may need a flow aid at high speeds.
- Labelling. Nutrient declarations and any nutrition or health claim must follow the rules of the destination market and be supported by the analysed content of the lot. Amazon Andes supplies the analysis; the claim is the responsibility of the brand owner.
Beverages
Juices, nectars, functional waters, sports drinks, kombuchas and instant drink mixes. The spray-dried powder is preferred for its solubility and light colour. The whole-fruit powder works in smoothie bases and cloudy drinks where fruit fibre is acceptable.
- Camu camu is tart: adjust sweetness and check the final pH, especially in low-sugar formulations.
- Add at the cold stage where the process allows; vitamin C is sensitive to heat and oxygen.
- In clear beverages, run a sedimentation test with the spray-dried powder before scaling up.
Functional foods and snacks
Bars, granolas, baked goods, yoghurts, fruit preparations, baby-food cereals and superfood blends. The whole-fruit powder integrates well because the fibre and the acid note read as "fruit" rather than "additive". Typical inclusion rates are low (1–5 % of the dry mix) and are set by taste rather than by nutrient target.
Confectionery
Gummies, chews, fruit leathers and coated nuts use camu camu both for the vitamin C declaration and for the sour fruit profile. The spray-dried powder disperses evenly in gummy mass; the whole-fruit powder is used in fruit leathers and coatings.
Cosmetics
Spray-dried camu camu is used as a botanical ingredient in face masks, exfoliating powders and rinse-off products, where formulators value a fruit-derived ingredient with a consistent particle size. Use is limited to describing the ingredient and its origin; cosmetic claims must be substantiated by the brand under the cosmetics regulation of each market.
Pet food
Premium pet-food and treat makers use small inclusions of whole-fruit powder as a fruit ingredient. Check the feed regulations of the destination market before use.
Formulation checklist
- Choose the format (powder vs spray-dried) by solubility, colour and label wording.
- Request samples of the current lot and its certificate of analysis.
- Run a bench trial for taste, pH and stability in your matrix.
- Fix the dosage from the analysed vitamin C, not from the specification range.
- Confirm packaging size and lead time with the quotation.
